Alia is a Yemeni-Bosnian-US multi-media artist, and graduate of Wellesley College and the California Institute of the Arts. She currently lives and works in and between New Orleans, Paris, Marrakech, and Jaipur. As a child of migrant linguists, Alia lived in and between seven countries, and grew up among five different languages.
I strive to portray my sitters in a way that evokes an intricate, meaningful story, serving as a cultural archive to the lives and cultures from which they have emerged.
My camera is my most powerful tool of storytelling, and therefore, it’s incredibly important the equipment I use has the ability to translate my visions. My Nikon gear has been a constant source of both reliability and innovation throughout my career, elevating my work and allowing me to produce portraits that are compelling, brave, and creatively unique each time.
Ever since I started using my Nikon Z 9 camera, I have been empowered by its unstoppable nature. The level of detail is astonishing, allowing me to portray the layered perspectives that define each work of photography and art, in crystal clear quality.
