Andrea attended the University of North Caroline at Chapel Hill with aspirations to become a writer, however in her final semester she took a photojournalism course for fun and from there, it was love at first sight. She dropped everything else in her life and embarked on a journey down the path of photojournalism, leading her to her award-winning career as a documentary photography.

I was drawn to photography through journalism and art because for me, it is the best medium to encourage people to pay attention to the world around them.

I have always loved Nikon’s equipment; my first Nikon camera was a Nikon F that I borrowed from my stepfather.

I have been a Nikon photographer for twenty years now, as I love how the cameras feel in my hands, the ease in which they operate, and even to the sound of the shutter.

My current Nikon kit elevates my style of photography as, in my work, I need small cameras that are reliable in tough situations, such as natural disasters and war – yet still have the quality that fine art photography necessitates.

The versatility that the new mirrorless cameras offer also allows me to dive more deeply into video, which is great for the documentary elements of my work.
