When I first started photographing, 25 years ago, I picked up the Nikon F2 and fell in love with the creative expression and freedom it gave me. Not much has changed as all these years later as I’m still shooting on Nikon. Throughout the years I have used an abundance of Nikon cameras – almost all of them. From film to DSLR to the newer, mirrorless cameras.
My style is quite different to other photographers as it’s an amalgamation of techniques, inspirations, genres and aesthetics I’ve spent my career developing. Every story requires a different aesthetic and I love using my Nikon gear to help me explore and learn something new – it’s something I force myself to do.
I have a special connection to the Nikon D90 in particular as it was the first DSLR that had video functionality. Back then it was revolutionary and it’s what inspired my journey into videography and filmmaking. It was incredible to think I could have one tool in my hand that did it all.
More recently, I was lucky enough to shoot with the Z 8 – in fact, before most others! It’s one I hold dear as I used it to shoot the ‘The Movement’ – the Nikon limited series with fellow Nikon family members on a trip around Spain. The number of possibilities that this small, compact camera has to offer are endless.
Being part of the Nikon family and through my ambassadorship, I’ve been able to have a ‘give and take’ relationship with the brand. Not only being able to test and try the latest kit, but also develop a relationship where I’m trusted to provide honest and thought-provoking feedback to ensure the products are always at their best and most suitable to those that use them in practicality.
